El 15 y 16 de noviembre se realizará en el Vaticano el Primer Simposio Mundial para Jóvenes contra la esclavitud y prostitución.
Te presentamos en esta entrevista exclusiva a Monseñor Marcelo Sánchez Sorondo, canciller de la Academia Pontificia de Ciencias y Ciencias Sociales en el Vaticano.
¿Cuándo se realiza el simposio para jóvenes y porque para usted el tema de la esclavitud y los esclavos es agenda urgente? ¿Nos puede contar un poco lo que va a ser el simposio contra la trata y la prostitución?
Sí,el simposio se realiza ahora en noviembre y se trata de que los jóvenes que tienen experiencia en los temas que el Papa llama “la globalización de la indiferencia” expliquen su vivencias y cuenten las mejores prácticas para defenderse de esa globalización de la indiferencia que, en definitiva, busca utilizarlos como esclavos del trabajo, la prostitución,de la venta de órganos o de lo que fuere pero sin dignidad.
Que ellos mismos encuentren mejores prácticas y para que convenzan a otros jóvenes de su propia generación y la que viene que la esclavitud existe y estar a la altura de los problemas del mundo global.
Que sea un simposio que convoque tanto al cristianismo como al budismo,a movimientos feministas por ejemplo,habla de que hay un cambio y que los jóvenes están y estarán muy atentos. ¿Usted sabe eso?
En el mundo global de hoy se conoce cada vez más las distintas culturas, las distintas regiones, las distintas tradiciones y es lógico que los jóvenes tengan otra visión y experiencia global que los jóvenes de otras generaciones no han tenido. Por eso, el encuentro tiene una dimensión absolutamente internacional.
Hemos querido, en medida de lo posible, abarcar todos los países: vienen de Asia, de África, de América Latina, de Europa, etc.
Le agradezco muchísimo que ponga luz para un tema tan oscuro, en donde se victimiza a la víctima.
La gran novedad es que los jóvenes de cualquier tradición y de cualquier parte del mundo y especialmente,las partes más importantes puedan estar juntos por primera vez. Trabajando los problemas de esta indiferencia para poder vivir en una forma como corresponde a la dignidad humana buscando la felicidad y encontrándola en los verdaderos valores y no en la globalización de la indiferencia.

Exclusive interview with Monsignor Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo
When is the youth symposium taking place and why is it that the matter concerning slavery and slaves is an urgent agenda for you? Can you tell us a little bit about the symposium and its view against human trafficking and prostitution?
Yes, the symposium is taking place now in November, and its aim is that those youngsters who are experienced in the topics which the Pope calls “globalization of indifference” explain their experiences so that they can outline the best defense practices against said globalization of indifference which, in short, seeks to use them as slaves either for work, prostitution, the sale of organs or any other similar activity lacking dignity.
So that they can find the best practices by themselves and they can convince other youngsters from their own generation and also the next one that slavery does exist, and so as to be up to all the problems arising from the global world.
The fact that this symposium gathers Christianity as well as Buddhism and the feminist movement, for instance, clearly reveals a change and that young people are and will be alert. Are you aware of that?
In today´s global world we know more and more about the different cultures, regions and traditions, and it is only logical for youngsters to have another vision and global experience that those youngsters from other generations have not had. That is why the meeting has an absolutely international dimension. We have intended, as far as possible, to include all the countries: people are coming from Asia, Africa, Latin America, Europe, etc.
I really appreciate that you shed some light on such an abscure topic, in which the victim is victimized.
The big news is that youngsters from any tradition and from anywhere in the world and, especially, the most important parts, can be together for the first time. Dealing with the problems of this indifference so as to have the chance to live in a way that corresponds with human dignity, searching for happiness and finding it in the real values and not in the globalization of indifference.
